Saxon Shore (Herne Bay and Whitstable)

February Photography 4th Feb 2026 10:15am

This month it's Annette's turn to lead us on a photographic quest for "Old and New" in Sandwich. Plenty of scope for this in the town and also loads of coffee shops to stop and warm up.

Annette says: "As I am selected for February, (Chilly weather etc) I thought we could go to Sandwich, meeting at the Guildhall, for subject  'Old and New'  with plenty of tea and coffee shops and scones to be eaten if weather not so great.  The small streets and new and old buildings and shops offer plenty of opportunity for Camera shot inspirations I hope!!!

I usually park for free along the Richborough Road, just outside Sandwich, if approaching on the A257 road from the Canterbury direction, and walk along The Butts and Rope Walk taking a left through the Guildhall Car Park towards the centre of Sandwich, which takes roughly 10 to 15 minutes.  Or you can bite the bullet and pay 1.80 an hour to park in the Guildhall Car Park.

If arriving by bus from Canterbury it is the Number 43 which takes roughly 35 minutes, straight to the Guild Hall.  They depart Canterbury half hourly, at 0916 and 0946 arriving at 0952 and 1022 consecutively.       As we usually meet at 10.15, we could extend our meeting time until the 0946 bus has arrived at 1022?"

Doesn't matter whether you are an avid photographer with 15 lenses or an amateur camera phone snapper- everyone is welcome.
